People Confused By Beach Warnings

Labor Day weekend is a great time to hit the beach, but if you plan to head for the water Saturday, avoid Crandon Park Beach in Miami-Dade and parts of Hollywood beach in Broward. High bacteria levels found in both locations are keeping swimmers out of the water. Some beach lovers were confused by the spotty use of warning flags resulting in some people swimming while others stayed out of the water.

Bacteria concerns close Broward, Dade beaches

Broward County health officials are warning the public to avoid swimming at a Hollywood beach near Harrison Street at A1A.

“Samples of beach water collected at this area did not meet recommended state requirements,'' said county Public Information Officer Candy Sims. “All other beaches in Broward County tested satisfactory.''

Police: Man Threatened Kid With Stun Gun

A Hollywood man was arrested and charged with child abuse after heallegedly threatened to zap an elementary school child with a stun gun. It happened Wednesday afternoon outside Oakridge Elementary on North 28th Avenue.
JoseGuerrero Sr., 66, apparently went to the school as the students werebeing let out to confront an 11-year-old who was having problems withhis son.

A parent upset after his son was having problems with another student found the student at Oakridge Elementary and threatened him by holding a stun gun inches from his face, Hollywood police said Wednesday.
